Herndon Reappointed OHCA Chief Medical Officer   

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Health Care Authority CEO Kevin Corbett has reappointed Dr. Mike Herndon as Chief Medical Officer. Herndon has served as the OHCA Chief Medical Officer since 2016.

In his current role at OHCA, Herndon is responsible for the design and implementation of key initiatives in the SoonerCare (Oklahoma Medicaid) program.

“I am honored to be reappointed as Chief Medical Officer here at the Oklahoma Health Care Authority. I feel fortunate to work with such a dedicated staff and have the opportunity to further my passion of ensuring our members have access to and receive high quality health care,” Herndon said. “I’m excited about the future of OHCA and the opportunity to work with our new leadership on the healthcare challenges our state is facing.”

Herndon has nearly 30 years of experience in family medicine. Prior to joining OHCA, Dr. Herndon worked 21 years in private practice. He has led several significant OHCA initiatives including the Disease Management Program, the Adult Medicaid Quality Grant, and the SoonerCare Pain Management Program. Herndon founded two free community health clinics and currently serves on several state quality improvement workgroups.

In 2018, Herndon was appointed to a six-year term on the Board of Governors of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). Dr. Herndon received his DO from the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Oklahoma State University.

About the Oklahoma Health Care Authority

The Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) administers two health programs for the state. The first is SoonerCare, Oklahoma’s Medicaid program. SoonerCare works to improve the health of qualified Oklahomans by ensuring that medically necessary benefits and services are available.
