OHCA Board to Meet in Midwest City

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Health Care Authority Board will hold its monthly meeting beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at the Reed Center in Midwest City. The meeting will kick off the board’s annual retreat. Anyone who is interested in the state’s SoonerCare (Medicaid) and Insure Oklahoma programs is welcome to attend the meeting and talk with members of the OHCA board and staff.

The agency’s board will conduct a two-day strategic planning session Thursday and Friday, Aug. 26-27, with registration at 8 a.m. and sessions beginning both days at 8:30 a.m. These meetings are also open to the public.

Thursday’s agenda includes a panel discussion on how state agencies can work together on health care reform. Panelists will include Terri White, Oklahoma secretary of health and commissioner of mental health and substance abuse services; OHCA CEO Mike Fogarty; and Terry Cline, commissioner of the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Another session will look at the effects of federal health care reform on Oklahoma, with the discussion led by Chad Shearer of the Center for Health Care Strategies and Andrew Cohen of the Pacific Health Policy Group.

Other sessions Thursday will highlight OHCA’s online enrollment system, the new health insurance exchanges called for under federal reforms, and health information technology.

Friday’s sessions will focus on Oklahoma’s budget outlook and the “patient-centered medical home” concept. The final session will be an open forum asking for input to help guide the agency in developing its strategic plan.
